LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Congressional candidate David Sanders is taking his opponent to task on his statements about a proposed mosque near Ground Zero in New York City.
The Democratic candidate for the 4th Congressional District said his
opponent, Todd Rokita, is accusing supporters of the center of “giving aid and comfort to the enemies.” Sanders said people have the right to their own opinion about the construction of the religious center.
“It is inexcusable to accuse American supporters of the Center, of
treason. It is completely inappropriate for a candidate for Congress to
call people traitors in order to remove the Constitutionally guaranteed
right to religious freedom,” Sanders said.
Sanders is biology professor at Purdue University. He faces Republican
Todd Rokita and Libertarian John Duncan in the November election.
