David Sanders Discusses Medicare And Veterans Benefits With Senior Citizens In Ellettsville
Friday, September 22, 2006—Dr. David Sanders, candidate for the office of U.S. Representative for the 4th Congressional District of the State of Indiana, visited the Monroe County Fall Festival on Friday, September 22, 2006 in Ellettsville. It was part of his campaign's third swing through each of the twelve counties in the district.
After meeting with voters in the tent area of the Festival Dr. Sanders attended the Senior Salute at the Area 10 Agency on Aging Endwright Center. Dr. Sanders, a sponsor of the Senior Salute, enjoyed hearing the stories about the senior citizens who were being honored. He discussed his ideas concerning reform of Medicare Part D with the seniors at the event.
Dr. Sanders stated, "Neither the taxpayer nor the elderly are being served properly by the current Medicare prescription drug program. It is destroying the sustainability of Medicare. Many more people will be falling into the donut hole of no coverage than people originally expected. If you wanted to design a federal program that would discredit federal programs, then you would design Medicare Part D."
Dr. Sanders also discussed the protection of veterans' benefits and experiences with the Veterans Administration with the many veterans and spouses of veterans who were present. Dr. Sanders shared his belief that "Veterans' benefits were earned and promised and should be guaranteed." Many of the veterans were aware of the current Congressman's assault on veterans' benefits and attempts to prevent veterans and their service organizations from testifying before Congress.
